Work went into administration this week. Not all that surprising but I find myself sad none-the-less. there isn’t a lot of need for a kids book specialist. I don’t know how long I will have a job for. A scary thought when you have a family to look after and mostly live paycheque to paycheque.

On thursday we were told it would be business as usual for the moment. Then friday morning we were told were weren’t honouring gift cards. yeah sure business as usual. Then I am supposed to be reprimanded (though my line manager didn’t bother) because I took to answering the phone with “good morning Borders…yes we are open”.

Seriously the guys in the offices need to get their butts on the store floors and deal with the s*#$ that we have to.

It was a really rough day yesterday. In the end it was the nice customers who got to me, who broke me. It turns out they had to get security in to help deal with the customers.

So anyway please, if you do need to deal with the staff at one of these stores do it with a little consideration. As people we will make it through this sure but knowing that doesn’t make it any less stressful or emotional at the moment.

On the upside – if it can really be called that, hopefully it will force a long overdue restructure of the entire industry. I say hopefully because I still dream of getting published.
